Hetuala City, located in Yongling Town of Xinbin Manchu Autonomous County in Liaoning Province, is an old city with a history of over 400 years.
The word Hetuala in fact is from Manchu Language meaning a flat top hummock. Hetuala City was built in Wanli 31 of Ming Dynasty (1603 AD). On the first day of the first lunar month in Wanli 44 of Ming Dynasty (1616 AD), Nurhachi proclaimed himself to be the emperor and established the reigning dynasty as Dajin and took the first year of the Dynasty as Tianming, known to history as Later Jin. The Land of Dragon Rising - Hetuala City, as the head of the three cities outside Shanhaiguan Pass of Qing Dynasty (Xingjing – Hetuala Old City, Dongjing – Liaoyang, Shengjing - Shenyang), was conferred as “Place of starting fortune”  by the emperor. Hetuala City was awarded National AAAA Tourist Attraction in 2002 and was listed as national key cultural relic protection unit in May 2006.
Hetuala has a long history and enjoys advantaged human resources. Emperors Kangxi, Qianlong, Jiaqing, and Daoguang made east tours for ancestor worship for eleven times and arrived in Xingjing (Xinbin) and visited Yongling for ancestor worship for eight times and made on inspection tour in Hetuala City and called on Xianyou Palace, Dizang Temple, and Guandi Temple to burn incense and worship for seven times, and Emperor Qianlong bestowed inscribed plaques for Xianyou Palace and Dizang Temple and dined in Xianyou Palace.
Hetuala City is the last capital of mountainous city in Chinese history. Moreover, it is the best-preserved mountainous city of Jurchen people until now. It is not only famed in China as the birthplace of The First Emperor Nurhachi of Qing Dynasty but also well-renowned both home and abroad as the cradle of Qing Dynasty and the place where Manchu rose.
